Book Club – THE VOW

If you’d like to discuss The Vow with your book club, here is a series of questions to guide your discussion.

Would you like me to join your book club via Zoom? Please reach out using my contact form. Thanks!

  1. Angelica made more than one vow over the course of her lifetime. Which vow do you see as the most important? Why?
  2. Have you ever been taken in by a con? What allows someone to be conned? What can you do to safeguard yourself?
  3. How good a judge of character do you feel you are? Have you made any assessments that later turned out to be wrong? If so, what happened?
  4. In what ways do you see the struggles women faced in the eighteenth century as still relevant to women now?
  5. Do you feel we’ve seen sufficient progress in women’s rights? If not, what changes are needed and how do you think they can be achieved?
  6. If you were Angelica, would you have married Antonio? Why or why not?
  7. If you were Angelica’s friend (or her guiding angel), would you have advised her to leave with Wolfgang? Why or why not?
  8. Do you believe people are better off with a partner/spouse than single? Why or why not?
  9. Discuss the differences between women’s friendships in The Vow and women’s friendships you see or experience these days.
  10. Do you believe love can endure beyond a lifetime? Either way, how do you know?
  11. At the end of your life, what records (letters, documents, social media) do you want to have preserved and what destroyed? Why or why not?
  12. What is the most important vow you have taken in your life? Have you stuck to it? Why or why not?
